Analysis: Dems’ Green Energy Push Is A Win For China, Weakens US Security

A new Heritage Foundation report claims that the Biden-Harris administration’s green energy policies are putting America at a strategic disadvantage by increasing reliance on China. The administration’s focus on transitioning the U.S. away from fossil fuels and toward renewable energy is benefiting China, which dominates the supply chains for the materials and components needed for solar panels, wind turbines, and electric vehicles (EVs), the report states.

Authored by Diana Furchtgott-Roth and Miles Pollard, the analysis warns that the U.S. is effectively ceding control of its energy security to China by prioritizing green technologies that rely on Chinese resources. The report argues that attempts to subsidize American green industries are futile, as Chinese firms already enjoy significant government support and dominate global markets.

The authors recommend a different approach: repeal green energy subsidies and focus on tapping into America’s vast domestic reserves of fossil fuels and critical minerals. They also suggest fast-tracking permits for domestic mining projects, which have slowed under the Biden-Harris administration’s regulatory policies. The report cites the blocking of Alaska’s Pebble Mine and other projects as examples of missed opportunities to secure U.S. energy independence.

Additionally, the report urges the U.S. to strengthen trade ties with resource-rich nations outside China’s sphere of influence while imposing tariffs on Chinese products to level the playing field. The analysis concludes that America’s current energy strategy risks making the country dependent on a foreign adversary, sacrificing both economic stability and national security.
