During a campaign stop on his “Safer America” tour, President Joe Biden taunted “brave right-wing Americans,” repeating his often-used claim that people who believe guns are necessary to fight back against a tyrannical government are wrong, because they would actually “need an F-15.”
“For those brave right-wing Americans that say it’s all about keeping America, keeping America independent and safe, if you want to fight against the country, you need an F-15. You need something a little more than a gun,” the president said during his speech in Pennsylvania.
“No I’m not joking, think about this, think about the rationale we used, that’s used,” Biden added.

This wasn’t the first time Biden made similar comments. Back in June of 2021, he said that Americans would “need F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons” to take on the government. In the same clip, he lied about the Second Amendment, claiming that it has always “from the day it was passed, limited the type of people who could own a gun and what type of weapon you could own.” This is false, as Americans at the time of the founding were allowed to own any weapon the government owned, including cannons and even private warships.

Responding to his most recent use of this argument, critics blasted Biden’s “authoritarian” comments on social media.
“The president has been saying this for years but it’s less and less congruent with how even his own administration has played out. How many F-15s did the Taliban have when Biden decided to surrender Afghanistan to them?” said Stephen Gutowski, founder of TheReload.com.
“This is the logic of an authoritarian. ‘We have bombs and missiles, you wouldn’t stand a chance. Therefore surrender your puny guns.’ No,” congressional candidate Blake Masters replied.
“For the first time in history, an occupant of the Oval Office used the threat of F-15 fighter jets to intimidate American citizens. Dangerous. Joe Biden must be impeached,” wrote Alex Bruesewitz, CEO of X Strategies LLC.
Bruesewitz later added in another tweet: “A year ago, Joe Biden handed F-15s and $85B worth of military equipment to the Taliban. Today, Joe Biden threatened to use F-15s against American citizens who believe in protecting the 2A. Insanity.”
“Did the sitting President of the United States just say that he’s willing to turn the military on citizens?” Twitter user David Bragg asked.
“So what I’m hearing Biden say is that our government was not in any real danger on Jan 6th. Pretty sure none of the protesters had an F-15,” another Twitter user pointed out.
“Pure provocation. We don’t need or want violence, we are going to defeat this regime at the ballot box, this is what they fear the most, that’s why they are trying to provoke us. Don’t take the bait, engage at every level of the political process!” responded congressional candidate Joe Kent.
Several other critics echoed Gutowski and Bruesewitz’s point about the Taliban, with many pointing out the irony of Biden saying more than just guns are needed in order to fight against the U.S. government on the one-year anniversary of his failed withdrawal from Afghanistan.
