Homebuilders are optimistic about the future as President-elect Donald Trump’s administration prepares to roll back regulations and fuel economic growth. Builders across the country are confident his policies will lead to a housing market boom and an increase in new-home sales.
Builder confidence has been steadily rising, with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) reporting three months of consecutive growth. Fannie Mae projects a 7.2% increase in new-home sales by 2025, with another 4% growth expected in 2026. “The energy right now is just unbelievable,” said Greg Hardwick, president of Hardwick General Contracting in Florida.
Trump’s anticipated regulatory changes have builders excited about smoother operations. Federal wetlands permitting and energy efficiency standards, seen as major hurdles, could be relaxed under his administration. Alicia Huey of AGH Homes in Alabama said such rules have caused delays and even cancellations of projects in the past.
Huey recounted one project where wetlands permitting was so time-consuming that it frustrated her clients. Builders see Trump’s return as an opportunity to streamline processes and remove barriers to efficiency.
Carl Harris, a Kansas-based builder and NAHB chairman, expressed optimism about the market’s future, saying, “I’m feeling as good as I’ve felt for a few years.” Harris highlighted stable mortgage rates and growing demand as key drivers for the industry.
With Trump’s leadership, the housing market appears poised for growth, as builders anticipate a more favorable environment to meet the nation’s housing needs.
