Chicago Synagogue Attack: Illegal Immigrant Suspect Draws Community Outrage

The alleged shooter of a Jewish man in Chicago’s West Rogers Park neighborhood has been identified as an illegal immigrant from Mauritania, sparking a wave of community frustration. The suspect, Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi, was apprehended by Border Patrol last year but was released in San Diego, according to reports.

The attack happened on Saturday morning as the 39-year-old victim was heading to his synagogue. Abdallahi reportedly shot the man before returning later and firing on emergency responders and civilians. During the incident, he was heard shouting “Allahu Akbar,” according to witnesses. Chicago police returned fire, injuring Abdallahi, who was then taken into custody.

Abdallahi now faces multiple charges, including six counts of attempted murder. Community members, however, are disappointed that hate crime charges were not added, with Alderman Debra Silverstein calling on the Cook County State’s Attorney to prosecute him fully, citing concerns over potential antisemitic motives.

Abdallahi’s case is yet another reminder of growing worries over illegal immigration and potential security risks, especially as reports reveal that some immigrants on the terror watch list have been allowed into U.S. communities under current immigration policies.

Local leaders are urging prosecutors to treat this case with the seriousness it deserves, while residents continue to question how Abdallahi, with a questionable immigration background, managed to remain in the country without further scrutiny.
