While America’s leaders obsess over millions in aid to Ukraine, China boldly rehearses an invasion of Taiwan with live-fire drills targeting ports and energy facilities—the ultimate dress rehearsal for annexing what they consider their rightful territory.
At a Glance
- China conducted massive military exercises around Taiwan, involving naval, air, ground, and rocket forces, including the aircraft carrier Shandong
- Drills specifically targeted Taiwanese ports and energy installations with precision strikes—a clear rehearsal for invasion
- Chinese military released propaganda videos showing rockets hitting targets and animations of explosions over Taiwanese cities
- While Taiwan’s stock market trembled, Biden’s Pentagon sent “strongly worded” concerns instead of meaningful deterrence
- China labeled Taiwan’s democratically elected president a “separatist” and “parasite” while declaring the island their internal affair
China’s Brazen War Games: Practice Makes Perfect
While our administration continues its weak-kneed diplomatic dance, China is quite literally practicing how to conquer Taiwan. The Chinese military’s massive “Strait Thunder-2025A” exercises featured their aircraft carrier Shandong, strategic bombers, and long-range precision strikes specifically aimed at Taiwan’s ports and energy facilities. Let’s call this what it is: an invasion dress rehearsal.
They’re not even trying to hide it anymore. The Communist regime closed shipping zones, released propaganda videos of rockets striking targets, and even animated explosions over Taiwanese cities. This isn’t subtle messaging—it’s the geopolitical equivalent of a neighbor standing in your yard with gasoline and matches while announcing they’ve always considered your house to be rightfully theirs.
Taiwan’s defense ministry reported tracking 71 Chinese aircraft and 21 warships during these exercises. That’s not a drill; that’s an armada. The sheer scale of these operations reveals Beijing’s growing confidence that they can overwhelm Taiwan’s defenses while America stands back wringing its hands.
Taiwan has established a central response group to monitor the situation, but what good is monitoring when Chinese rockets are raining down on your strategic infrastructure? Meanwhile, our own Defense Department’s response has been characteristically spineless, with stern words but no meaningful action to demonstrate that America stands ready to defend its allies from communist aggression.

Biden’s Paper Tiger vs. China’s Real Claws
While China executes military operations with the precision of a nation preparing for actual conflict, the Biden administration’s response has been predictably feeble. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth managed to visit Japan at the height of these tensions, calling Japan an “indispensable partner.”
That’s great, Mr. Secretary, but indispensable for what exactly? Strongly worded press releases? The U.S. is legally bound to treat threats to Taiwan as a matter of “grave concern,” yet our administration seems more concerned with the proper pronouns for federal employees than preventing a Chinese communist takeover of one of Asia’s most vibrant democracies.
“No matter what the name is, it cannot cover up the naked provocative nature of the drills and their mentality of threatening Taiwan’s people”, says Taiwan defense ministry spokesperson Sun Li-fan.
The Chinese Communist Party isn’t mincing words either, explicitly calling these drills a “severe warning and forceful containment against Taiwan independence.” They’ve labeled Taiwan’s democratically elected president Lai Ching-te a “separatist” and “parasite”—language that would be comical if it weren’t backed by missiles, fighter jets, and carrier groups. Taiwan’s stock market briefly dipped following the announcement of these drills, showing that even financial markets recognize the seriousness of these threats while our own leadership seems determined to downplay them.
The Gathering Storm in the Pacific
Let’s face reality: China isn’t conducting these elaborate military exercises for their health. They view Taiwan as part of their territory and have explicitly stated they’re prepared to use force to bring it under control. Most Taiwanese favor maintaining their de-facto independence, but Beijing couldn’t care less about what the actual people of Taiwan want.
The communist regime insists Taiwan is an “internal affair” and opposes “external interference”—code for “we plan to invade and don’t want America to stop us.” The frequency and scale of these military exercises have increased dramatically, demonstrating China’s growing confidence that they can act with impunity.
While the EU and U.S. issue their perfunctory condemnations, emphasizing the “risk to regional security,” China continues building the military capability to seize Taiwan by force. Their Maritime Safety Administration declared closed zones for shipping due to the drills, a preview of the blockade tactics they would employ in a real conflict.
America’s deteriorating military readiness and our leadership’s obsession with climate change and DEI initiatives rather than combat effectiveness sends a clear message to Beijing: we’re not prepared to fight. The question isn’t if China will move against Taiwan, but when—and whether America will have the resolve or capability to stop them when they do.
