Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) has voiced concerns about potential Republican opposition to President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda. Speaking to Todd Starnes, Roy warned that some GOP lawmakers may undermine Trump’s policies despite public declarations of support.
Roy described early signs of resistance among Republicans, citing discussions about immigration and Social Security. “You’re already hearing excuses like, ‘We can’t do mass deportations,’” Roy said, arguing that such attitudes reflect a lack of resolve to carry out Trump’s platform.
He also took aim at the bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act, which reallocates funding within Social Security. Roy argued that the nearly $200 billion cost of the bill threatens the program’s stability and reflects the GOP’s failure to embrace fiscal responsibility.
Roy noted his alignment with a group of Republicans committed to advancing Trump’s policies but warned that others within the party may not share the same commitment. “There’s a large block here ready to work, but some people are in for a wake-up call,” Roy said.
Roy further criticized taxpayer funding for NPR, describing it as unfair competition for private broadcasters. He voiced support for eliminating funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting as part of broader reforms.
As Trump prepares to take office, Roy’s remarks highlight internal tensions within the GOP and the challenges of unifying the party around a bold agenda.
