Conservative leaders from the United States traveled to El Salvador to attend President Nayib Bukele’s second inauguration, showcasing their support for his leadership. Bukele, a staunch advocate for law and order, was sworn in for another five-year term after winning 83% of the vote.
Prominent American conservatives, including Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and María Elvira Salazar (R-FL), Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), and media personality Tucker Carlson, were seen celebrating in San Salvador. Donald Trump Jr. and Kimberly Guilfoyle also attended the event, highlighting Bukele’s international appeal among right-wing figures.
Sen. Lee shared images from the event, stating, “In El Salvador for the inauguration of President Nayib Bukele. He defeated his principal opponent, Manuel Flores, in February’s presidential election. To the best of my knowledge, Bukele made no attempt to imprison Flores” inauguration.
Bukele’s administration has been noted for its aggressive stance against gang violence and Marxist ideologies. Recently, the government removed gender ideology from public education, a move celebrated by conservative circles. His efforts to combat crime and reform education have resonated with many American conservatives, including Eduardo Verástegui, a producer known for his fight against human trafficking, who attended the event.
A bomb threat, attributed to the leftist FMNL Party, threatened to overshadow the inauguration. However, El Salvador’s National Police successfully thwarted the plot by seizing explosive devices from a former rebel stronghold.
In his speech, Bukele proclaimed, “We have finally conquered fear and are a truly free country,” emphasizing his commitment to freedom and security. His administration’s efforts were praised by Rep. Salazar, who noted, “Miami and its Central American community have a partner we can work with from Congress to successfully crush the gangs threatening our Hemisphere.”
The event also saw the attendance of several international leaders, including Spain’s King Felipe VI and Presidents Xiomara Castro of Honduras and Javier Milei of Argentina. The gathering underscored Bukele’s growing influence and the widespread support for his policies.
Despite the celebration, a representative from President Joe Biden’s administration, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, attended, stating, “The U.S. stands ready to build on our partnership with El Salvador to foster economic growth and cooperate on regional migration and security.”
Bukele’s leadership continues to draw significant attention, particularly from those supporting his firm stance on crime and education reform. His pro-Bitcoin policies have also attracted substantial support from the cryptocurrency community, highlighting El Salvador’s unique position in global politics.
