William Braddock, a former Republican candidate for Congress, faces serious charges after threatening Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) during the 2021 election campaign. Braddock allegedly discussed using a “Russian-Ukrainian hit squad” to harm Luna, according to an audio recording made by a conservative activist. The shocking recording led to Braddock’s arrest and extradition from the Philippines.
In the recording, Braddock is heard calling Luna a “dead squirrel” and a “speed bump in the road,” while also discussing his willingness to take violent action. Despite his claims that the audio was altered, a judge issued a restraining order against him. Braddock fled the country but was later extradited and charged with one count of interstate transmission of a true threat.
Rep. Luna, who took office in 2023, has been the target of several threats. Earlier this month, her office reported a “serious shooting threat” that is currently under investigation. Luna has faced ongoing concerns about her safety since taking office, with her team raising the issue of increased hostility toward public figures.
Braddock’s case has once again raised concerns about the security of public officials, as many call for stricter measures to prevent violent threats and protect those serving in government.
