Democrats Question David Hogg’s Use Of Party Contact Lists For Personal Fundraising

David Hogg, a new vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), is being criticized by some within his party for using DNC contact lists to solicit donations for his own political action committee (PAC). While his actions are not prohibited under party rules, some Democrats believe it is unethical.

Hogg has reportedly sent multiple messages to DNC databases urging supporters to contribute to his PAC, Leaders We Deserve. Since its founding in 2023, the organization has paid Hogg over $175,000, including more than $20,000 in December. Some party officials say his use of DNC resources to direct money to his own PAC instead of the DNC is problematic.

One of Hogg’s messages to DNC contacts read, “David Hogg here: I was just elected DNC Vice Chair! This is a huge win for our movement to make the Democratic Party more reflective of our base: youthful, energetic, and ready to win.” The message included a link directing recipients to donate to his PAC.

His fundraising efforts have frustrated some party members. A high-ranking Democrat remarked, “David Hogg — talk about living up to your name. A trough of DNC dollars all for him and he doesn’t seem to give an oink.” Another official stated, “It’s a stunning lack of judgment that is concerning to many people.”

Hogg, 24, rose to prominence in 2018 following the Parkland, Florida school shooting. He has since become a vocal activist for left-wing policies, including defunding the police and abolishing ICE. His appointment as DNC vice chair was already controversial, and the latest concerns about his fundraising tactics have only added to the criticism.

Cameron Kasky, a fellow Parkland survivor, was among those questioning Hogg’s leadership. “I mean it’s just very frustrating to be in a party in desperate need of increased accountability for our struggling leadership, and watch someone who is never held accountable ascend to leadership,” Kasky said.

Hogg declined to provide a comment when reached by phone. However, a spokesperson later stated that he has also raised money for the DNC in addition to his personal PAC.
