Department of Homeland Security Moving Against the First Amendment

Elections have consequences. With the Biden administration running the show, Americans are seeing just how ugly these consequences can be.

However, for as bad the policy ramifications are, this is just the starting point. Top government agencies, such as the Justice Department, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), etc., are completely under the thumb of Joe Biden.

Rather than the president ensuring these departments admirably carry out their responsibilities, he’s weaponizing them to fit his own political agendas.

In the case of DHS, this means directly attacking First Amendment rights, as documented by PJ Media.

The Anti-Free Speech Board

Under the official guise of working against domestic terror threats and “misinformation,” the Department of Homeland Security is establishing a Disinformation Governance Board.

The board itself is going to be under the control of official Nina Jankowicz. Jankowicz has tweets going back years where she rails against free speech, calls for social media to be “regulated,” and even expresses her disdain for “free speech absolutists.”

Of course, this anti-free speech board is being branded as a group that will primarily focus on disinformation coming from the Russian government, along with migration that’s deemed as “irregular.”

These claims might be slightly more believable if the Disinformation Governance Board wasn’t under the thumb of a White House that’s openly called for reforms to regulate speech on social media. The same also goes for the folks who will actually be sitting on the board.

The Reality of Political Campaigns Against “Misinformation”

At the end of the day, the true purpose of the Disinformation Governance Board is as transparent as possible.

This DHS-backed initiative is nothing more than work to push the narratives and viewpoints that Democrats want people to believe. This has little to nothing to do with pushing back against propaganda from the Russian regime.

If anything, this will be used as a smokescreen to crack down against the speech and viewpoints of non-leftist US citizens. This won’t be the first attempt by Democrats to get people yanked down from social media platforms if they say something that opposes left-wing agendas.

In all honesty, it’s not the role of the federal government to come through social media and determine what is “misinformation” or “disinformation.” True misinformation and disinformation are best combated by open speech and debates where people can challenge ideas they disagree with.

The Department of Homeland Security would be much better served by focusing on other matters, such as the mass chaos at the US-Mexico border.
