Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has reportedly donated a significant amount to a political action committee (PAC) supporting former President Donald Trump. According to sources, Musk’s contribution to America PAC, which can accept unlimited donations for political activities, is described as “sizable.” The PAC is expected to disclose its donors by July 15.
Musk, who has been openly critical of President Joe Biden, previously denied supporting any presidential candidates. On March 6, Musk stated on social media, “Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President.” However, recent reports suggest a shift in his stance, as his donation to the Trump-aligned PAC indicates a possible endorsement.
In March, Trump met with Musk and other affluent donors. Despite these meetings, Musk publicly declared that he had not made any contributions to presidential campaigns. He reiterated this denial in May, refuting claims that he might serve in an advisory role under a potential Trump administration.
Historically, Musk has not been a prolific political donor, although he has financially supported politicians from both major parties, including Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Marco Rubio, George W. Bush, and John Kerry. His companies, Tesla and SpaceX, have benefited from federal contracts and subsidies, adding complexity to his political engagements.
Musk’s relationship with the Biden administration has been tense since Tesla was excluded from a White House electric vehicle summit in 2021. This exclusion led Musk to encourage his social media followers to vote Republican in the 2022 midterms. Additionally, after acquiring Twitter in 2022, Musk reinstated Trump’s account, further signaling his political leanings.
The sizable donation to America PAC underscores Musk’s increasing involvement in the political arena and highlights the ongoing tensions between him and the current administration. As the political landscape evolves, Musk’s actions continue to draw significant attention and speculation.
