The Republican Party has been encouraged by a prominent think-thank to reject a new United Nations (UN) report regarding global warming.
The Competitive Enterprise Institute, which supports freedom of trade and industry, issued the report that calls upon the GOP to reject the UN’s conclusions.
According to the United Nations, “humans are responsible for all global heating over the past 200 years leading to a current temperature rise of 1.1°C above pre-industrial levels.”
The UN also stated that such climate change is responsible for a number of “frequent and hazardous weather events.”
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated recently that industrialized nations should attempt to end their net-carbon emissions by 2040. This would represent a ten-year shift ahead of the previous schedule and would require a major reworking of the American economy.
However, according to the Competitive Enterprise Institute, the UN’s conclusions are misleading. The Institute’s memo calls the new UN report “alarmist” and focuses on “three new developments and realities that you should be aware of as debate about climate continues.”
According to the memo, previous predictions of catastrophic climate change have been inaccurate.
“We should not mindlessly and recklessly proceed with dangerous and expensive emissions cuts until this paradox is resolved,” it reads.
In addition, even the ambitious carbon-reduction policies of the Biden administration are projected to fall short of the initial goals.
The memo was sent to every Republican member of Congress.
Republicans in Congress have received little assistance on the topic of economic and energy freedom over the last several years.
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) has been a rare exception. Manchin, the former governor of West Virginia, called for an expansion of traditional energy production.
However, Manchin recently complained that the Biden White House refused to live up to its promises regarding energy production.

Manchin believes that expanding energy tax credits for electric batteries made in China will empower Beijing.
“It is horrific that the Administration continues to ignore the purpose of the law which is to bring manufacturing back to America and ensure we have reliable and secure supply chains,” he said.
