Hero Citizen Takes Out Suspect In Mall Shooting

A citizen legally carrying a firearm neutralized the 16-year-old citizen accused of killing one and injuring three more in a Texas mall shooting, according to the El Paso Police Department

The heroic citizen, 32-year-old Emanuel Duran, took a shot at the suspect in the Cielo Vista Mall as he pointed his gun toward a group of mallgoers.

“As soon as the shooting ended, the 16-year-old suspect began to run and was pointing the gun toward the direction of bystanders, including 32-year-old Emanuel Duran, a Licensed to Carry Holder. As the suspect ran toward Duran and bystanders, Duran drew his handgun and shot the suspect,” the El Paso PD said.

Duran, after shooting the suspect, assisted an off-duty El Paso police officer in providing first aid to the suspect, who is in stable condition, according to Just The News.

The suspect – who is too young to be named in the official report – was carrying a handgun illegally, according to El Paso PD Sergeant Robert Gomez:

“It’s always concerning especially when a 16-year-old has a stolen handgun and fires a weapon inside a very crowded mall. It’s very concerning, it’s very disturbing actually.”

A 17-year-old was killed in the tragic shooting.

Matt Couch posted a clip to Twitter showing some of the scenes from the harrowing event as it unfolded.

According to CBS News, the shooting was caused after a fight between two groups of people in the mall turned violent.
