The Republican-led House of Representatives recently approved a resolution that condemns the “defund the police” movement that gained popularity during the nationwide riots that took place in 2020 and 2021. The bill was passed with a bipartisan 337-61 vote, with all 61 votes against the measure coming from Democratic lawmakers, including every member of the far-left “Squad.”
The nonbinding resolution that should have been unanimously passed, introduced by Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN) expresses condolences to families of officers killed in the line of duty and recognizes the need for better data collection on assaults against law enforcement.

Stauber blasted Democrats who “vilify law enforcement” on the House floor ahead of the vote, asking “Where were they during the summer of 2020?” when widespread riots ignited by the killing of George Floyd led to a surge in police deaths.

Among the Democrats who opposed the resolution were Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), Cori Bush (D-MO), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Greg Casar (D-TX), Summer Lee (D-A.) and Jamaal Bowman (D-NY).
Republicans have targeted crime as a key issue in 2024, as crime spikes across the nation in a way that’s become extremely apparent to voters. Conservatives point to the clear “pro-criminal agenda” Democrats have advocated for an legislated for that has sacrificed the safety of law enforcement.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) accused “lawless liberals” of handicapping police with failed bail reform and policies that appease the “defund the police” movement.
Some Democrats slammed the Police Week proposals as “messaging bills.” Far-left Democrats like Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) have been consistently in favor of policies that have increased dangers to citizens’ property and personal safety. Bush said in a statement that the measures mislead the public about crime rates, fuel xenophobic sentiments and increase the availability of deadly weapons without making communities safer.
