As the Taliban seize control of Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital city, Biden pushes for U.S. civilians to be evacuated from the country. The entire disaster surrounding America’s 20-year occupation has now resulted in the country’s loss, as Afghanistan returns to Taliban authority.
The Iranian officials are celebrating the defeat of the U.S. in Afghanistan as the Taliban took over Kabul. The President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, has declared that he plans on establishing good relations with the neighboring country Afghanistan. The newly elected President is known for his hardline views and the murder of any opponents to his regime. He celebrated the defeat of the U.S. as the beginning of lasting peace, security, and revival of life in the region. He also stated that the Taliban’s rule in the country will ensure stability in the area and that Tehran will ensure good neighborly relations. They have even dispatched the Iranian foreign minister Javad Zarif to meet with China’s Afghanistan Ambassador.
The Chinese are also supporting the Taliban’s takeover of the country. Their foreign minister spokeswoman Hua Chunying said that China is prepared to pursue good cooperative relations with the Taliban-occupied Afghanistan. China has maintained good relations with the Taliban over the past decade and even established a secret backchannel with Taliban officials in 2015. The Chinese foreign minister has called the Taliban’s vital military and political force in the region. Iran has also received multiple Taliban delegates in this alone.
It’s been reported that opponents of the U.S. are also in favor of maintaining friendly relations with the Taliban’s as Biden failed to protect the Americans stuck in the country and is now being pushed to send thousands of militants to evacuate them safely. He is being criticized endlessly for his unacceptable response to the situation, which might endanger his position during the 2024 elections.
