Disgraced former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) is suggesting that the Republican Party must shed its loyalty to President Donald Trump or face the creation of a new neoconservative party. Cheney, along with her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, has already endorsed Kamala Harris for president, and she believes the GOP has strayed from its principles by embracing Trump.
Cheney criticized the current state of the GOP, alleging that the party has “rejected the Constitution” by supporting Trump and abandoning substantive policy positions. She argues that if the Republican Party continues down this path, it will no longer represent true conservative values, and a new political entity will be needed to fill that void.
Cheney’s comments highlight a growing divide within the GOP between traditional neoconservatives like herself and the non-interventionist wing led by Trump. While Trump has distanced the party from figures like Paul Ryan and Jeb Bush, Cheney is warning that this shift could have lasting consequences for the party’s identity.
She also raised concerns about the 2024 election, particularly regarding the potential for Republicans to refuse to certify the results if Trump is not victorious. Cheney has stated her opposition to Rep. Mike Johnson becoming Speaker of the House, fearing he would not uphold the integrity of the election process.
