The re-election campaign of Rep. Maxine Waters, (D-CA), doled out $8,000 to her daughter in September, adding to over $1 million the congresswoman has given her daughter over the past nearly two decades, according to a report from Fox News.
Karen Waters and her company Progressive Connections have taken in over $1 million in payments from the campaign of Rep. Waters since 2003.
Fox News reported that the payments were justified as compensation for organizing slate-mailing operations to bolster her mother’s re-election.
A Wednesday Federal Election Commission report revealed that Citizens of Waters sent Karen Waters’ company two payments totaling $8,000 in June for “slate mailer management fees.”
Information on the practice of slate-mailing was provided by Fox News:
Slate-mailing is an uncommon practice in federal elections, where a consulting firm is hired to create a pamphlet of sorts that contains a list of candidates or policy measures, and advises voters on how to cast their ballots.
The California representative is reportedly the only federal politician who enacted a slate mailing operation during the 2020 election campaign.
Waters has faced other accusations of nepotism before. A 2004 report by the Los Angeles Times alleged that Waters’ family members had “made more than $1 million in the last eight years by doing business with companies, candidates, and causes that the influential congresswoman has helped.”
Recently, Waters has gained national attention after she lauded disgraced financier Sam Bankman-Fried, whose cryptocurrency exchange FTX went bankrupt and is now facing numerous lawsuits after many of its consumers lost billions of dollars.
“@SBF_FTX, we appreciate that you’ve been candid in your discussions about what happened at #FTX. Your willingness to talk to the public will help the company’s customers, investors, and others. To that end, we would welcome your participation in our hearing on the 13th,” Waters posted on Twitter.
The California congresswoman has on numerous occasions been accused of giving preferential treatment to Bankman-Fried.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson pointed out that the financier himself has been invited to Washington in order to influence crypto regulations and then posed for a photo with Waters.
One video shared on social media appeared to show Waters, who chairs the House Financial Services Committee, blowing a kiss to the disgraced tech mogul.
Maxine Waters has a history of blowing kisses to Samuel Bankman-Fried. Waters chairs the House Financial Services Committee, which is investigating FTX. The new GOP Congress must investigate Waters’ time as Financial Services Committee Chair.
