Miami-Dade Ballots Retrieved After Truck Incident, Election Worker Fired

A Miami-Dade election worker has been terminated following a mishap in which a ballot box and bag “fell” from an unsecured truck door Monday evening. The materials, left on the roadside near the South Dade Regional Library, were promptly reported by nearby residents who took them to local authorities.

Christina White, Miami-Dade’s Supervisor of Elections, attributed the incident to human error, stating that the worker had neglected to lock the truck’s rear door before leaving the site. Although the worker expressed regret, White underscored that “zero tolerance” is standard for the Elections Department.

White thanked the residents who reported the ballots, describing them as “upstanding citizens” who acted responsibly. The ballot box and bag were both sealed and undamaged, with no sign of interference. White reassured the public that the ballots had already been counted accurately, maintaining the integrity of the voting process.

The bag contained a single provisional ballot, which will go through a review process to verify eligibility before counting. Following this incident, the Miami-Dade Elections Department has reiterated all security protocols to ensure no repeat of the mistake.
White assured Miami-Dade voters that their ballots are safe and counted accurately, with continued emphasis on thorough oversight in future elections.
