NFL’s Damar Hamlin Credits God For Speedy Recovery

Buffalo Bills’ safety Damar Hamlin released a moving video message on Saturday in which he thanked God for using him through his miraculous recovery as “a vessel.”

The encouraging message came weeks after the near-tragic on-field medical emergency shocked the nation. It was Jan. 2 when Hamlin collapsed on the field suffering from cardiac arrest as Buffalo played in Cincinnati.

Hamlin’s heartbeat was restored through CPR by medical personnel on the playing surface and once again at the hospital before he stabilized. He spent the next nine days at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center recovering.

Now back in Buffalo, the fortunate football player shared his inspirational message.

Addressing the camera, the 24-year-old Hamlin said “it was important for me to wait and speak at the right time, as it was just a lot to process within my own self mentally, physically, even spiritually.”

He further shared that “what happened to me on Monday Night Football I feel is a direct example of God using me as a vessel.” Hamlin proceeded to thank by name the several people who intervened in his cardiac event and kept him breathing until he arrived at the hospital.

Hamlin continued by praising the medical professionals, saying he “didn’t feel anything short of love” while being cared for. He talked of the act of putting aside team allegiances and prioritizing humanity instead, saying he was not surprised by it “but I’m deeply grateful.”

His recovery has been nothing short of remarkable, His first statement from the hospital came on Jan. 7, just five days after being admitted in critical condition. He was released from the hospital on Jan. 11 and permitted to travel home.

Eleven days later, on Jan. 22, Hamlin was able to attend a Bills football game. Now he has released a most encouraging video message thanking the millions of supporters who showered him with love and prayers after the near tragedy.

Hamlin believes he will be able to spread the message of hope through his charitable foundation, “Chasing Millions.” He said sharing this dream for kids and communities around the world has “always been what I stood for and what I will continue to stand for.”
