State Sen. Jon Bramnick (R-NJ) has proposed a “limited state of emergency banning all drones” as unexplained drone activity continues to alarm New Jersey residents. The sightings, which began in mid-November, have expanded to include Staten Island, New
York, prompting concerns about public safety and privacy.
“The State of New Jersey should issue a limited state of emergency banning all drones until the public receives an explanation regarding these multiple sightings,” Bramnick wrote on X.
Eyewitnesses have reported drones with bright lights hovering near sensitive locations, including President-elect Donald Trump’s Bedminster golf course and the Picatinny Arsenal military base. The mysterious appearances have also led more than 20 mayors across the state to demand action.
Rep. Thomas Kean Jr. (R-NJ) joined the chorus of concerned officials, calling for federal intervention. “The safety and privacy of our residents must be a top priority,” Kean said. He urged the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Aviation Administration to deploy resources for a thorough investigation.
Gov. Phil Murphy (D) has assured residents that authorities are monitoring the situation in coordination with federal agencies. “There is no known threat to the public at this time,” Murphy said, but frustrations are growing over the lack of answers.
Bramnick’s proposed ban reflects increasing urgency to address the mysterious drone activity. As investigations continue, New Jersey residents await clarification about the origin and purpose of the drones that have sparked widespread alarm.
