During an appearance on Newsmax’s “Saturday Report,” Rep. Stephanie Bice (R-OK) said that the message has been “lost” that the Dobbs decision doesn’t actually ban abortion.
The Supreme Court’s decision in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned previous abortion precedent established by the landmark decision of Roe v. Wade, didn’t ban abortion, instead returning the issue to the states to decide.
That fact is being missed amid the outcry over the ruling, Bice said on Newsmax Saturday as she spoke about the massive pro-abortion protests that have erupted across the country.
“I think that that’s a message that’s being lost here,” the Oklahoma congresswoman said. “Certainly, people have the right to protest as long as it’s in a peaceful manner, but [the ruling] doesn’t ban abortion. I think that’s being missed here. This is a state rights issue now, and it puts that back to the people so they can elect elected officials like we have in Oklahoma that protect life.”
Bice questioned the purpose of the large protests that took place in New York City on Friday night following the ruling, pointing out that New York is a pro-abortion state and has no plans to change that position.
“The state of New York chose to make abortion legal and that’s the people’s decision, but for the left to insinuate that this is something that is a complete and total ban is just not accurate at all,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Republican congresswoman said that her constituents in Oklahoma have more important concerns than the Supreme Court ruling — as they are mainly focused on kitchen table issues such as inflation.
Bice also noted that she finds it “amazing” that President Joe Biden met this past week with executives from the wind industry when he should have been meeting with individuals from the oil and gas industry to find solutions to the high price of gas. The national average price of gas was approximately $4.93 per gallon as of Saturday, according to AAA.
“Not only did he not meet with oil and gas executives, but he wrote letters to the CEOs of top oil and gas companies accusing them of price gouging and telling them that he’s going to use every available means within his executive power to right this ship,” Bice said. “Righting the ship means allowing company oil and gas companies to drill.”
The Biden administration “launched a full-on assault” on the oil and gas industry from day one, which is the reason why gas prices have skyrocketed, the congresswoman added.
“It’s astonishing to me that he would rather look at the renewable industry, than look at allowing for American energy production, [including] right here in Oklahoma to allow for prices to decrease,” Bice said.
She went on to point out that alternative forms of energy such as wind farms and solar power will force the United States to rely on raw materials coming from China, while the U.S. should be focused on sourcing our energy domestically from oil and gas.
“We can’t continue to rely on our adversaries like China to provide energy for this country,” Bice said. “We’ve got to become energy independent once again.”
