House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has created the “Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic” that will investigate how the government addressed Covid-19.
McCarthy said:
“As part of our Commitment to America, House Republicans promised we would investigate the Covid origins and provide oversight on the trillions of taxpayer dollars spent on the pandemic response. The newly-established Select Committee on the Coronavirus will help deliver these important answers to the public.”
The investigation will focus on the origins of the virus and the governmental actions that were taken in response.
Moreover, the panel will hold its first hearing in February and is expected to conduct investigations into the decisions by high-profile health officials, such as Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) will chair the subcommittee.
Other members of the group are Reps., Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), Debbie Lesko (R-AZ), John Joyce (R-PA), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA), Ronny Jackson (R-TX), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Rich McCormick (R-GA).

Rep. Jackson affirmed his commitment to investigating the pandemic.
“I am honored to accept my appointment to the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic. Revealing the truth behind the origin of the Coronavirus has been a top priority of mine since evidence first suggested that the virus was leaked from a Chinese lab,” he said.
Furthermore, Greene, who was stripped of her committee assignments under Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, will now get a seat at the table to investigate Covid-19.
Rep. Greene will also be a member of the House Oversight Committee and Homeland Security Committee.
The details of the investigation were outlined in the House rules package for the 118th Congress.
The rules package calls on members to conduct a thorough assessment on the “efficiency, effectiveness, and transparency” of all taxpayer funds and government programs in relation to the pandemic.
Members will also determine the efficacy of any federal laws and regulations that were enacted to combat Covid.
Additionally, the investigative report must address the impact of pandemic policies on the economy, small businesses, communities, and schools, as well as the mandated vaccination policy for federal employees.
House Democrats have yet to announce who will serve on the panel.
The committee must report its findings before Jan. 2, 2025.
