Republicans Flock To Florida Since DeSantis Took Office

Recent numbers show that more than 509,000 Republicans have moved to Florida since Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) took office in 2018, compared with only 17,000 new Democrats.

According to statistics from the Florida Division of Elections, Florida added a total of 1,037,685 net voters since 2018, of which over half were Republicans. In the same time period, Democrats accounted for just over 17,000 of the new Floridians.

Aside from his policies, DeSantis also financially backed the cause, earmarking about $2 million in late 2021 to help with voter registration.

State Senate President Wilson Simpson highlighted the importance of creating funds to bolster voter registration.

“Critical investments in voter registration are the keys to keeping Florida from turning into California or New York,” said Simpson.

Florida GOP Vice Chairman Christian Ziegler celebrated the gains in Republican voters, but stressed that they cannot become complacent.

“And while the data is great, we cannot afford to let up at this point,” Ziegler said. “The Governor has fought for us every single moment of every single day for the past four years; the least we can all do is fight for him from now until Election Day to help strengthen the foundation he has laid in Florida.”

Lee County GOP Chairman Jonathan Martin gave his opinion on why the Democrats are falling so far behind Republicans in signing up new voters.

“The symptoms currently plaguing the Democrat Party in Florida point back to the virus that is the failed leadership in Washington DC and the disastrous extreme anti-American values leading the state and local Democrats further away from their constituents,” Martin said.

Florida Rep. Spencer Roach agreed.

“The symptoms currently plaguing the Democrat Party in Florida point back to the virus that is the failed leadership in Washington DC and the disastrous extreme anti-American values leading the state and local Democrats further away from their constituents,” said Roach.

In general, Americans are moving to Florida in record numbers, a trend that began in the pandemic but has continued steadily.

DeSantis recently shared that Florida is leading the nation in new business formations since January 2020 as well.

DeSantis, a rumored presidential candidate, led Trump by 8 points in a recent poll of Florida Republicans.
