Of course, Donald Trump remains the titular head of the Republican Party if he runs in 2024 and remains a big IF, he will most certainly be nominated and may regain his Presidency.
That requires him playing the long game.
But let’s be honest, he may not have a lot of battery power left, even for a man with seemingly endless sources of energy. Retirement at Mar-a-Lago may agree with him. Based on the recent Arizona rally, he is still smarting from the cheap shots and underhanded attacks he had to put up with. He should take some time to build a strategy to retake the house with solid conservatives in the 2022 midterms.
Rather than speculating about the 2024 presidential race, conservatives should look to the immediate effects of state-by-state movements and races. It means paying attention to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Governor Ron DeSantis is a natural leader and a gut-level conservative. His approach to government was not modified by the events over the last 4-5 years. He became the man for the moment. DeSantis has all the spit and vinegar of Donald Trump without a lot of the baggage.
DeSantis is the principled Republican who knows how to body slam the media. He speaks directly to the people of his state and goes around the gatekeepers. Like Trump, he shows conservatives how to deal with the character assassins and hit job artists in the media.
Governor Ron DeSantis is currently facing the Florida gubernatorial election in 2022. He will face former Republican now a converted Democrat US Rep. Charlie Crist (St. Petersburg). Crist is a match made in heaven for DeSantis. A solid conservative with a strong record runs against a flimsy moderate with a form weaker than cheap lite beer.
But DeSantis’s only real competition is the media and the Biden Administration. The national cable stations act as mouthpieces of the Democrat Party as they attempt to bring him down.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis responded in kind, “There’s been talk about potential people advocating at the federal level imposing compulsory masks on kids. We’re not doing that in Florida, okay? We want kids to be able to be kids. We need them to be able to breathe. It’s uncomfortable for them to do it. There’s not very much science behind it.”
State and local governments are best equipped to deal with the school requirements. DeSantis noted that in Florida, masks did not make a difference in COVID-19 cases for school children. Schools with mask requirements have the same level of infection as those without. It is a virus. It travels and spreads regardless of mask requirements.
Democrats are attempting to force children to wear masks in school this fall. “Circle Back” Jen Psaki decided to let DeSantis have it in a recent press briefing.
She said, “If I were a parent in Florida, that would be greatly concerning to me because kids under the age of 12 are not vaccinated. They’re not eligible yet.”
White House press secretary Jen Psaki thinks that DeSantis is endangering children by allowing them to breathe. Has she even considered the dangers of forcing kids to mask up?
Every pitch Jen and the Dems throw is a hanging curveball, and Ron DeSantis continues to knock them out of the park that it is fun to watch this summer.
