In a shocking development, Taylor Swift’s concerts in Vienna have been canceled due to credible threats of a terrorist attack. The concerts, part of her “Eras Tour,” were scheduled to take place at Ernst Happel Stadium. The cancellation follows the arrest of two individuals suspected of plotting attacks targeting the event.
Concert promoter Barracuda Music issued a statement on social media, confirming the cancellations: “With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety.”
Austrian authorities have arrested two suspects, including a 19-year-old with alleged ties to ISIS, in Ternitz and Vienna. Public Security Director Franz Ruf disclosed that the suspects were involved in “preparatory actions” for a possible attack. The younger suspect had reportedly pledged allegiance to ISIS, and the other had been radicalized online.
Authorities also seized toxic chemical materials from one of the suspect’s residences, which are currently being analyzed. Ruf emphasized that the suspects had specifically targeted Taylor Swift’s concerts as potential attack sites.
As a result, security measures at Ernst Happel Stadium have been significantly increased. Enhanced entry checks and other precautionary measures are in place to ensure public safety. Despite these efforts, the decision to cancel the concerts was made to protect fans and staff.
Taylor Swift was scheduled to perform in Vienna on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Fans who purchased tickets are advised to stay updated through official channels for information on refunds and potential rescheduling.
This incident underscores the ongoing threat of terrorism and the importance of maintaining strict security measures at large public gatherings. As authorities continue their investigation, ensuring the safety of the public remains the top priority.
