President Donald Trump recently emphasized his belief that the United States should avoid deep involvement in Iran’s internal affairs. When asked by podcaster Patrick Bet-David whether the U.S. should support efforts to restore the monarchy of the late Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Trump responded that the U.S. should not get “totally involved” in regime change efforts.
During his presidency, Trump took a tough stance on Iran, withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal and imposing crippling sanctions that significantly damaged Iran’s economy. These sanctions reduced Iran’s oil exports and GDP, limiting its ability to fund terrorist activities in the region. Despite these strong actions, Trump reiterated in the interview that he wants Iran to succeed, as long as it does not pursue nuclear weapons.
In an interview with Al Arabiya, Trump reiterated his opposition to Iran acquiring nuclear capabilities. While he stated that Iran won’t obtain nuclear weapons under the right circumstances, he acknowledged that the situation is now largely beyond his control. He also praised the Iranian people as “great business people” and “warm,” expressing respect for them despite ongoing tensions between the two countries.
Trump’s comments came amid growing tensions in the Middle East, where Iran has been accused of supporting terrorist proxies such as Hezbollah. With Israel’s conflict with Hamas intensifying, Trump noted that Iran is in a “dangerous” situation, though he avoided specifying how these challenges might unfold.
