Alina Habba, former President Donald Trump’s attorney, spoke to Newsmax on Wednesday about Jack Smith. Smith is the special prosecutor appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate Trump for January 6th. Habba said Smith intends to politicize the inquiry and is “not a good actor.”
The attorney for Trump questions Smith’s impartiality, and rightly so since his family has been known to support Biden’s 2020 campaign. Habba calls Garland’s appointment of Smith an “utter politicization” of the legal system. Smith is a veteran ethics and war crimes prosecutor, but the problem lies in his ties with the Biden Administration and his family’s relationship with the Obamas. He is set to investigate Trump’s alleged involvement in the breach of the U.S. Capitol on January 6th and the illegal classified documents regarding his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.
Attorney General Garland appointed the special council after the former president’s announcement that he is running again in the next election against Biden. Garland also stated other “recent developments” that prompted the decision but did not clarify those. “Such an appointment underscores the department’s commitment to independence and accountability in particularly sensitive matters,” Garland continued. He also said that special counsel will allow prosecutors to make decisions “indisputably guided by the facts and the law.”

Alina Habba: "They have been trying to do this for so many years, and when you do have to have evidence, they struggle to find it."

Habba pointed out that Smith donated to President Joe Biden’s campaign while his wife made a documentary with former First Lady Michelle Obama. Meanwhile, the left hails him as fair, ethical, and unbiased. She called out the decision as partisan. Smith is not bipartisan as he should be, but special counsel appointed by the Attorney General also cannot be removed without his consent. Merrick Garland organized the Mar-a-Lago raid and approved unorganized subpoenas, so it’s unlikely he will remove Smith from the case.
Habba added that Americans are “sick and tired” of the left going after Trump while inflation increases and tax dollars go to Democratic investigations. She implored the public to consider what they are paying for. She asked listeners to consider what life looked like when Trump was in office, adding “This is all gamesmanship that has no business in this country. We’re paying for it, and it shouldn’t be.”
