Trump’s Immigration Stance Resonates With Voters, Polls Suggest

As the 2024 presidential race takes shape, President Donald Trump’s tough stance on immigration appears to be striking a chord with voters, according to recent polls.

A Cygnal poll released Thursday shows Trump with a commanding lead over Vice President Kamala Harris on the issue of “Illegal immigration and border security.” A whopping 52.6% of voters say they trust Trump most on this issue, compared to just 37.7% for Harris.

What’s more surprising is that even some Democrats and former Biden voters are siding with Trump on this issue. The poll found that 11% of Democrats and 13% of 2020 Biden voters trust Trump more on immigration.

Frank White, a political analyst, noted, “These numbers should be setting off alarm bells in the Harris campaign. Immigration is a top concern for many voters, and right now, Trump owns this issue.”

A Fox News poll backed up these findings, showing Trump with a 19-point lead on border security and a 14-point edge on immigration overall.

The issue’s importance to voters can’t be overstated. In the Cygnal poll, “illegal immigration” ranked as the second most important issue, with 19.1% of voters listing it as their top priority.

Harris, who’s been tasked with addressing the border crisis as Vice President, seems to be facing an uphill battle in convincing voters she can handle the issue effectively.

John Smith, a voter from Arizona, expressed a common sentiment: “We’ve seen the border crisis get worse under this administration. Why should we believe Harris can fix it now?”

As the election draws nearer, Harris will need to find a way to reassure voters on immigration or risk Trump running away with this crucial issue.
