Vance Blames Horrific Crime On Opponent’s Failures

J.D. Vance, the Republican nominee for Senate in Ohio, blasted his opponent Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) over illegal immigration and crime during a debate on Monday evening — pointing out that the Democrat congressman could have potentially prevented the rape of one of his constituents by an illegal alien if he had done his job.

In July, 27-year-old illegal immigrant Gerson Fuentes was arrested and charged with raping a 10-year-old girl in Columbus, Ohio. The story became front-page news when Democrats discovered that the child had gotten pregnant from the rape and had traveled out-of-state to Indiana to obtain an abortion, citing restrictions on the procedure in Ohio and claiming that they would have prevented her from obtaining an abortion at six weeks pregnant.

The left immediately began politicizing the story, attacking Republicans for supposedly preventing the girl from receiving an abortion — despite the fact that many people, including Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, have asserted that she would have been able to do so in her state. The news later broke that the rapist was an illegal alien with connections to the child’s mother, who defended him and refused to press charges.

During the debate on Monday night, Vance noted that he supports exemptions to abortion restrictions for cases of rape and incest. The Republican candidate then blasted Ryan for his years-long support for unfettered illegal immigration, lax border enforcement and giving amnesty to illegal immigrants.

Vance then asserted that crimes committed by illegal aliens such as Fuentes were partially the result of policy positions and lack of action related to the border crisis from lawmakers like Ryan.

“You voted so many times against border-wall funding, so many times for amnesty. If you had done your job, she would have never been raped in the first place,” Vance argued.

Fuentes was able to live in the U.S. for at least seven years, working at a café despite being an illegal immigrant. In a statement to Breitbart News, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency claimed that they had not encountered Fuentes until he was arrested for the rape.
