Vietnam Veteran Bestows Purple Heart Upon Trump: ‘You Got Guts!’

In a memorable moment in Butler, Pennsylvania, a Vietnam veteran presented former President Donald Trump with his Purple Heart, highlighting Trump’s courage in the face of adversity. This heartfelt gesture occurred just 12 weeks after an assassination attempt left firefighter Corey Comperatore dead and wounded Trump and two others.

The presentation took place before Trump addressed supporters at a town hall in Fayetteville, North Carolina, moderated by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL). Throughout the week, Trump had focused on hurricane disaster relief efforts, raising over $5.6 million to assist those impacted by Hurricane Helene.

Before the presentation, Luna read a letter from “Dwight,” the veteran who gifted the Purple Heart. In the letter, he expressed admiration for Trump’s resilience, stating, “God bless you, your family, and the United States of America.” This letter underscored the deep respect many Americans hold for Trump.

As Dwight handed Trump the Purple Heart, the former president added humor to the occasion by joking about the notecard, quipping, “It looks like a check. It’s a check. It’s cash.” This lighthearted comment helped to lift the spirits of those in attendance.

Dwight emphasized Trump’s bravery during the shooting incident, saying, “You laid down there, you got back up, and the first words out of your mouth was, ‘Fight, fight, fight.’” He concluded by affirming, “You got guts,” reinforcing the admiration shared by many for Trump’s strength.

Reflecting on his experience, Trump stated, “I got very lucky,” suggesting that divine intervention may have played a role in his survival. He also recalled a previous time in 2016 when a veteran presented him with a Purple Heart, showcasing the bond he shares with the military community.

Additionally, Dwight raised concerns about the increase in homelessness among veterans, which has reportedly risen from 7% to 14% under the Biden-Harris administration. He pressed Trump for plans to ensure that veterans receive the support they need rather than prioritizing assistance for illegal immigrants. Trump responded confidently, “We’re going to take care of our veterans properly.”
