Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), one of the Senate’s most noteworthy defenders of whistleblowers through the decades, has gone public with allegations of stunning FBI corruption.
Unsurprising to conservatives, whistleblower claims that Hunter Biden has been provided cover and a soft touch are at the center of the latest controversy.
Grassley, the ranking Republican member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued reports on Monday that his office has been contacted by FBI whistleblowers. He also released a copy of a letter he sent to Joe Biden’s Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray on July 18.
In the letter, Grassley warned Garland and Wray that if the allegations are true, then the Justice Department and the FBI are and have been “institutionally corrupted to their very core to the point in which the United States Congress and the American people will have no confidence in the equal application of the law.”
The Iowa senator said that whistleblowers have specifically alleged that two senior FBI officials have manipulated information to lead to the opening of investigations into the campaign of President Donald Trump. At the same time, those officials buried information regarding Hunter Biden that is likely incriminating.
The Hunter Biden allegations appear to involve his abandoned laptop. The corporate media of course followed the FBI’s lead in downplaying the importance of the laptop or outright claiming it was fabricated by Russian spies.
The FBI had possession of the laptop for nearly a year before it was made public through reporting by the New York Post in the runup to the 2020 presidential election.
At least one of the senior officials reportedly implicated by the Grassley report was also involved in Operation Crossfire Hurricane, the investigation into the hoax that claimed the Trump campaign had colluded with Russian interests. That fiasco led to the special counsel investigation that revealed there was no substance to the allegations after months of investigations and millions of dollars in taxpayer expense.
Democrats may be hard pressed to simply ignore the reports, given they are being revealed by Sen. Grassley. Serving in the Senate since 1981, Grassley’s reputation and credibility lend weight to the seriousness of the charges.
The corporate media is virtually certain to ignore the story, at least as much as possible until the midterm elections in November. If the GOP retakes control of the House, Senate, or both, the hearings that could follow would be impossible to ignore.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said as much in a House hearing on Thursday when he was completely stonewalled by a DOJ official who refused to answer any questions relating to Hunter Biden.
