Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently warned that if peace negotiations fail with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a ‘third world war’ may start.
While talking with the CNN host Fareed Zakaria, Zelenskyy stated that he is “ready for peace talks” with Putin, in order to put an end to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Zelensky added that he had been ready for negotiations for the past two years — a sign that he may not be willing to accept Russia’s terms.
Zelensky claimed that he is willing to try any possible method of negotiation that will end the conflict peacefully. He also asserted that the conflict could lead to a greater catastrophe if negotiations fail to end the conflict. Zelenskyy indicates that they are prepared to use every format, and take every chance for a possibility of peaceful negotiations with Putin, but if all peace attempts fail, then the conflict will officially become the third World War.
According to Zelenskyy, many people don’t realize the importance of these peace talks, as they claim that this dialogue is useless and it will not resolve the conflict.
Earlier, Russia offered to end their attack on Ukraine if Ukraine acceded to cease military actions, acknowledge Crimea as Russian Territory, alter its constitution to confirm their geopolitical neutrality and accept Luhansk and Donetsk as independent states. Zelenskyy, emboldened by the U.S. State Department and NATO support, refused the peace offer.
It is crucial to understand that diplomatic talks do not always yield immediate results. With Putin’s use of hypersonic missiles and his recruitment of Syrian troops, it is clear that Russia intends to secure its interests in Ukraine, regardless of the opposition they face during their invasion.
