Johnson And Trump Seek Legislation To Ensure Voter Integrity

While voter integrity has been questionable, especially during the last presidential election, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced during a press briefing on Friday that he and his fellow House Republicans are proposing legislation to combat illegal voting.

Standing alongside former President Donald Trump, Johnson said that he and his colleagues will introduce a bill to make it mandatory for voters to prove they are American citizens before they cast their ballot. It would also require that states remove all ineligible voters from their databases.

“What we’re going to do is introduce legislation to require that every single person who registers to vote in a federal election must prove that they are a citizen first,” said Johnson. “They have to prove it. that will be a new part of the federal law and a very important one.”

The announcement came after Johnson met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago to discuss how to ensure election integrity for the upcoming election in November.

Even though it is against the law for non-citizens to vote in federal elections, Republicans want to ensure that only American citizens are voting. Johnson said that it is “common sense” that only citizens should be voting.

While it is common sense, it appears that the Biden administration and Democrats might be betting on illegal immigrants voting. With the free pass he has given them to roam into the country without any consequences, there has to be a reason behind the laid-back approach at the border.

While liberal lawmakers claim that conservatives are being ridiculous and conspiracy theorists, however, that is what’s going on in Arizona.

Recently, Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes released the state’s Election Procedures Manual that would allow people whose citizenship could not be verified to register as “federal-only” voters, allowing them to vote in the upcoming elections, according to The Daily Caller.

“I think it’s absolutely a possibility because if you aren’t requiring proof of citizenship, you’re simply going on people’s word that oh yeah I’m a U.S. citizen, you’re going to get aliens who register and who vote,” Hans von Spakovsky, a senior legal fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation, told the outlet.

“The Justice Department, they don’t prosecute these cases, even though it’s a felony under federal law for an alien to register and vote,” he continued. “Aliens have an incentive, a voter registration card, which you get when you register, that’s a gateway for getting other kinds of ID.”

While Democrats have mocked the proposed legislation, Arizona proves that there are loopholes that non-citizens could use to register to vote. With the latest polls favoring Trump, who is to say that Democrats will not get desperate to ensure a Biden victory?
